ASSISTEENS AUXILIARY

Assisteens is an auxiliary of Assistance League of Orange that encourages and provides volunteer opportunities for young people in grades 7th through 12th. The goals are to develop a sense of community, responsibility, leadership skills, communication, self-reliance, personal responsibility, public speaking, and team building. In years past, through selected programs, Assisteens gave over 3,000 hours of service to the Orange community per year.

Assisteens volunteer within the community throughout the month in many different ways. Each year backpacks are filled with toiletries for school children and new uniforms are bagged for distribution.  During the holidays, gifts are wrapped with care for children and families.  The Assisteens work side-by-side with AL Orange Chapter members and/or Orange Blossoms (AL Orange auxiliary) at the Thrift Shop located in the Orange Plaza.  Monthly Bingo games are held at a senior home in Orange as Assisteens spread joy. Assisteens volunteer and provide service to many to include preparing dinners at Ronald McDonald House, work with students in an after school program at Youth Centers of Orange, and write and send letters of encouragement to teens in with OCD and other mental health conditions.  Assisteens also participate in various fundraising events to raise money for the philanthropies they provide service to. Some of our favorites are Street Fair and Boutique Noel.  Monthly meetings are planned, orchestrated, and run by the Assisteens Chairman, and are held in Old Town Orange.   The meetings include bonding, interactive and fun activities and may include guest speakers.  Developing leadership is a big focus of the program and after an Assisteens first year as a new member, each Assisteen takes on a chairmanship role or serves on the Governing Body.

Social and fundraising events are held primarily September - May, with Thrift starting in June and some philanthropies, summer meeting, etc. beginning in August. There are over 100 high school teen boys and girls participating in the Assisteens Auxiliary from high schools throughout Orange, Villa Park and adjacent areas. Family participation is always encouraged and appreciated in Assisteens. If you have any questions regarding Assisteens Auxiliary, please contact us at assisteensoforangemembership@gmail.com.

The Assisteens program is very popular as evidenced by the fact that we maintain an ongoing waitlist. The Assisteens meetings take place in the Assistance League of Orange Chapter House, which has a room capacity of 125, which becomes the maximum capacity for the Assisteens program.
